Oscar Winners 2013: Jennifer Lawrence won Oscar for best actress for the film Silver Linings Playbook. She was so thrilled that she tripped on the steps on her way to the stage to accept her first academy award. She celebrated her win with her family members after the show.

London Olympics 2012 Closing Ceremony

The London 2012 Olympics closing ceremony is a 3 hour spectacular tribute to the best of British music from the past 50 years. According to artistic director Kim Gavin it will be “a fabulous emotional experience”. The spectacle will be ‘the best after-show party that’s ever been’. He added that the bonanza will be the ‘disco after the wedding’.
Popular singer Jessie J and sailing hero Ben Ainslie ill both take significant roles in the event. There will also be speeches by International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge and London organizing committee chief Sebastian Coe, and the extinguishing of the Olympic flame. The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh will be in the Stadium along with the Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry and other members of the Royal Family to watch the flag handover ceremony. More >

“The Hunger Games” World Premiere

“The Hunger Games” hits theaters March 23. The world premiere of “The Hunger Games,” will be held in downtown Los Angeles Monday night. The film “The Hunger Games” is the Lionsgate’s adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ bestselling novel of the same name.
The movie will open to the general public in more than 3,000 theaters on March 23. Young women report overwhelming interest in seeing the movie. NRG says that 74 percent of young women say they have “definite” interest in seeing it, and 45 percent say it is their “first choice.”

National Cherry Blossom Festival 2012 marks 100th Anniversary!

The spring of 2012 marks the 100th Anniversary of the National Cherry Blossom Festival. In 1912, the city of Tokyo, Japan gave Washington DC an incredible gift of 3,000 cherry blossom trees to be planted around the Tidal Basin in West Potomac Park, in East Potomac Park and on the grounds of the Washington Monument. The 100th anniversary of these beautiful trees will be celebrated from March 20– April 27, 2012.
This year’s century celebration of National Cherry Blossom Festival is expected to be the biggest celebration ever. The bloom period for the cherry blossoms lasts approximately 14 days. The average peak bloom date is around April 4th, which means that by the later weeks of the festival the blooms will be gone.

2012 Oscar Winners: The Artist topped the Oscar Winners list of the 84th Annual Academy Awards for the year 2012. “The Artist,” won five Academy Awards, including best picture. The film also took home Oscars for best directing for Michel Hazanavicius, the lead actor award for Jean Dujardin and trophies for costume design and score.
Meryl Streep, 62, won the Best Actress Oscar for portraying Margaret Thatcher in “The Iron Lady.” “Oh, come on,” Streep said of the standing ovation she received. “When they called my name, I had this feeling I could hear half of America say, ‘Oh, no, not her again,’ ” Streep said. “But whatever.” May expected that this award may go to Viola Davis from “The Help.” But “The Help” won an Oscar in the name of Octavia Spencer as the best supporting actress.
