Do you all remember the song “Gangnam Style” from a South Korean artist named PSY? Even though you are not an internet savvy person, you must have heard it at least once somewhere in the functions kids dancing to it, flash mobs, DJs, malls, etc. It is the “viral” video of that era which gave a glimpse of K-POP to the rest of the world. That would be the instance where Indian masses are largely exposed to a phenomenon called K-POP.

A lot of young and young adults that are consuming content on the internet must be aware of the K- Dramas. K-Dramas are the limited episode Korean drama series with captivating stories concerning human emotions.  Compared to Indian television content I personally feel that Korean Dramas are far better in stories, scripts, cinematography, and acting. Somehow I feel their sensibilities and culture is similar to that of Indians.

As per my knowledge, Indian teens and young adults consume Korean content online a lot and they are now slowly being exposed to the K-Pop, thanks to the Global phenomenon called BTS – Beyond the Scene. The Korean name of the 7 member K-pop group is: Bangtan Sonyeondan which roughly translates into “Bulletproof Boy scouts” in English. I am personally a big fan of this group. The main reason for me to write this blog is to tell my introduction to K-pop.

Mid 2017, being the avid YouTube browser I am I stumbled upon few reaction videos of BTS songs. I deliberately ignored them as I was mostly into the Bollywood or Indian film reaction videos at that time. But I happened to see a reaction video of a song called “I need you” by BTS and that’s it. I am hooked to BTS.

I have many experiences and memories that I would like to share about my Journey  into K-world, let I tell you all my story in parts.

Watch this space for chapter 2 of K pop!
