Nelson Mandela recovered and discharged: Madiba all in good health! The 92-year-old former African President Nelson Mandela spent two nights at the Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg, reportedly suffering from respiratory difficulties.

Mandela’s nephew Lubabalo Sigonya, 37, said: “We are all very concerned right now. Anything could happen at his age. We pray for the best though because he has done so much for us.”

Close relative Nozolile Mtirara, 90, whose late husband grew up with Mandela claimed that Mandela was not in a critical condition and that he only had a problem with his legs. “There is nothing wrong with him, he just has a problem with his legs and that is why he can’t walk,” she said.

But the good news is he all in well health and has been discharged from hospital. “He has been discharged,” said Vejaynand Ramlaken, one of the military doctors assigned to care for the country’s former presidents said on Friday. “He is stable, but will be subject to intense monitoring,” Dr Ramlaken added.

Mr Motlanthe confirmed that Dr Mandela was “well” and sent the former statesman’s thanks to the nation and the world for their well wishes and prayers. Dr Mandela’s grandson also reiterated the family’s thanks for the “spirit of Ubuntu” [togetherness] shown by South Africans and those further afield for their support.
