Wikileaks: India was on al-Qaida hit list

WikiLeaks of US embassy cables revealed that India was on the hit-list of al-Qaida and a bio-terror target. Wikileaks released the US embassy cables of May, 2006 said, “India is now an al-Qaida target.” Referring to the then ministry of external affairs (MEA) additional secretary KC Singh’s remarks, the cable said, “Singh opened by noting that India is becoming more prominent on al-Qaida’s radar.” The cables also referred to the then joint secretary of Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) Sharad Kumar as observing that “al-Qaida franchises, if not al-Qaida proper, are and have been very active in India. School board shooting: Panama City Florida. A gunman named Clay Duke open fired at the school representatives at the Bay District Schools board meeting. Tuesday afternoon a person calmly walked to a podium, spray painted a red “V” with a circle around it on a wall suggesting V for Vendetta and open fired at school board members. A security guard soon ran in, exchanged shots with and wounded the man who then killed himself, police said.

He missed every shot and ended up taking his own life. In video of the clash that lasted several minutes, the gunman, Clay A. Duke, dispassionately confronts the Bay District school board, telling everyone in the room to leave except the men on the board. More >

Hugh Jackman injured on ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show’

Hugh Jackman, the tough Wolverine of the X-Men was slightly injured on Tuesday while performing a stunt during Oprah Winfrey show at the Sydney Opera House.

Jackman slide down a cable from the top of the Sydney Opera House toward a giant outdoor stage, but he failed to hit the brake in time and crashed into the stage’s light rigging resulting in a black eye. More >

Julian Assange bail hearing on Thursday

Julian Assange, the WikiLeaks founder’s bail appeal will come to hearing on Thursday.

Judge ordered on Tuesday that Assange can get bail by paying the amount of 200,000 pounds ($316,000). Swedish prosecutors challenged the decision. Assange has surrendered himself to Britain police over a Swedish sex-crimes warrant. He refused to surrender to Sweden for questioning and denied any kind of wrong doing.

The court said further details would be arranged later Wednesday for the bail hearing on Thursday.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader Tops Box Office

“The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader” has topped the US box office by earning $24.5 million on the opening weekend. Narnia 3 is directed by Michael Apted.

Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie’s romantic thriller “The Tourist” debuted in second-place with a collection of $17 million.

And Disney’s animated musical “Tangled” slipped from the top spot to three, with $14.6 million.

” Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1″ fell from two to four with $8.5 million, followed by Denzel Washington’s action thriller “Unstoppable”, which came in at five with $3.8 million.

Sony appointed Nobel Prize winner Eiichi Negishi as Senior Advisor of the R&D department. Eiichi Negishi is the Japanese co-recipient of this year’s Nobel Prize for chemistry in Sweden.

Eiichi Negishi is the US-based organic chemist, a distinguished professor at Purdue University in Indiana. Mr.Negishi will help Sony reviewing its progress in the research of organic electronics.

“Professor Negishi will also advise on Sony’s medium and long-term research plans, and on methods for nurturing talented researchers,” the company said. More >

Bollywood ka Khiladi Akshay Kumar’s son Aarav may become the next Khiladi after his father. The eight-year-old Aarav won three medals at a Karate tournament Monday.

“I’m the proudest dad in India today! My son just won three medals in his annual Karate tournament,” Akshay, a black-belt in martial arts, tweeted yesterday.

“I must say that Aarav’s gold medal is all thanks to my wife. She gave him extra training everyday at home for the last one month and he thanked her with an outstanding gold medal in return. He may have my genes but he definitely has his mother’s fighting spirit,” wrote Akshay.

Akshay and Twinkle tied the knot in 2001, and Akshay is still quite vocal about his love for her.

“Tina (Twinkle’s real name) I love you and I’m so proud of our son,” he tweeted.

Lakshmi Mittal, the renowned Indian steel magnet remains the richest business tycoon in South Africa for the sixth consecutive year.

Mittal is on the tops the 100 wealthiest businessmen in South Africa released by the weekly ‘Sunday Times’, even though he is not living in South Africa.

Mittal’s listed holdings of R 21.5 billion ($3.4 billion). Mittal first provided technical assistance to turn the ailing Iscor around before buying it out in 2001 as he expanded his global steel empire.

The ‘Rich List’ is based on an analysis of holdings of all companies listed on the Johannesburg Securities Exchange, thus being only the South African portion of Mittal’s wealth, as he has huge interests worldwide. More >
