The National Cherry Blossom Festival is a time to celebrate spring. Cherry Blossom Festival returns in timely fashion this weekend as pink buds are already sprouting from tree-lined streets. Festivities will take place around town from March 26th. The official festival begins Saturday when the blossoms will be near peak bloom, according to the festival’s website.
The National Cherry Blossom Festival begins this weekend in Washington, D.C., and organizers are asking people to participate tonight in a walk around the Tidal Basin where the cherry blossoms have been blooming since they arrived as a gift from Japan in 1912.
The festival will begin with an event to reflect on the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, which gave the capital its first cherry trees 99 years ago. More >

The Google doodle on February 11, 2011 portrays some of the wonderful inventions of the scientist such as the phonograph, the motion picture camera, and a practical electric light bulb. Christina Aguilera fluffed her lines while singing the national anthem at the start of the Super Bowl last night, in front of a television audience of more than 100 million.
Aguliera, who has handled the task without issue before NBA games, botched the lyrics badly halfway through the song. Instead of “‘O’er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming” turned into “what so proudly we watched at the twilight’s last reaming.” More >

Teresa Scanlan is Miss America 2011. The 17 year old Teresa Scanlan from Nebraska is crowned as the 90th Miss America!She was named the youngest champion of all-time on Saturday night, earning the crown by performing “White Water Chopsticks” on the piano. She was the only contestant to neither sing nor dance.
Teresa Scanlan won a $50,000 scholarship and a yearlong run with the crown at the competition Saturday night at the Planet Hollywood casino-resort in Las Vegas, giving the Cornhusker State its first-ever win at the pageant.

Full Lunar eclipse for the year of 2010 is to be witnessed tonight in the southern region of Europe. The people of united states are able to see the total eclipse whereas parts of Europe and Africa will see it partially. This would be the first total lunar eclipse in almost 3 years as the last total lunar eclipse was on February 20, 2008.
The start of the eclipse will begin December 21 after midnight EST on December 21 in North and South America while it will be visible in Northern Europe just before sunrise. The end of the total lunar eclipse 2010 will also be visible at Sunset for Japan and northeastern Asia. In Philippines it will be visible after sunset as a partial lunar eclipse. More >
