Happy Birthday Thomas Edison! The genius American inventor Thomas Alva Edison’ 164th birthday is celebrated by Google with a doodle featuring some of his best inventions.

The latest Thomas Edison Google doodle continues Google’s tradition to commemorate events of cultural, regional, and scientific importance. The Google doodle on February 11, 2011 portrays some of the wonderful inventions of the scientist such as the phonograph, the motion picture camera, and a practical electric light bulb. This is the second birthday doodle by Google after Jules Verne early this week.

Edison is one of the greatest inventors in history, holding 1,093 US patents in his name, as well as many patents in the United Kingdom, France, and Germany. He is credited with numerous inventions that contributed to mass communication and telecommunications.

The current Google doodle honors Thomas Edison’s most renowned invention, the electric light bulb which was originally invented in 1879.
