serena-williams-wimbledonSerena Williams Won her 22nd Grand Slam Wimbledon Title today by defeating No. 4 Angelique Kerber with 7-5, 6-3 scores. With her win on Saturday Serena Williams finally equalled Steffi Graf’s record of 22 grand slam singles titles. Kerber had beaten Williams in the Australian Open final in January but could not able to repeat the feat again.

“I had a couple of tries this year, I lost to two great opponents one of them actually being Angelique. It makes the victory even sweeter to know how hard I worked for it,”Williams said after the match.

For 34-year-old Serena Williams, this is the 7th  Wimbledon victory which ties her with Graf for second all-time behind Martina Navratilova’s nine. Fourteen years since she first won Wimbledon, Williams claimed the title for a seventh time without dropping a set all tournament.

She lost both Australian Open and Fresh Open titles this year. “It’s been incredibly difficult not to think about it. It makes the victory even sweeter to know how hard I worked  for it. This court definitely feels like home, I have a match later today in the doubles, so I’ll be back out.” she said after finally winning number 22.
