Miss Angola Leila Lopes wins the crown of Miss Universe 2011 beating contestants from 88 other countries

Miss Angola, Leila Lopes was crowned as Miss Universe 2011 on Monday night. The 25-year-old Leila Lopes is Angola’s first winner ever in this 60 year old beauty pageant. Miss Angola emerged as Miss Universe for the year 20ll beating contestants from 88 countries. She replaces last year’s winner, Ximena Navarrete of Mexico.
When asked what physical trait she would change, Lopes replied, “Thank God I’m very satisfied with the way God created me, and I wouldn’t change a thing.” She added, “I consider myself a woman endowed with inner beauty. I have acquired many wonderful principles from my family, and I intend to follow these for the rest of my life.”
Contestants from 89 nations on six continents spent the past three weeks in Sao Paulo, trying to learn samba dance steps, visiting impoverished children and kicking a football around for cameras as the globe’s biggest beauty contest is held in Brazil for the first time.
The first runner-up was 23-year-old Olesia Stefanko of Ukraine and the second runner-up was Priscila Machado of Brazil. The third was Miss Philippines and the fourth Miss China.

The United Nations’ World Population Day July 11th!

The UN observed July 11th as World Population Day every year. The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) began observing this day in 1987. In July 11, 1987 there were five billion populations over this planet. The United Nations declared July 11 of that year “Five Billion Day” to mark the estimated date on which we reached that milestone. The day is recognized to create awareness on the importance of family planning, maternal health, gender equality, poverty, and human rights.
The UNFPA is estimating that around Oct. 31 2011 global population will hit seven billion. That’s a growth of 40 per cent in just over 20 years. The planet’s population has doubled since 1968.

India Census: Population for the new decade is 1.21 billions

The latest India Census shows the major increase in the population of India by 181 million people since 2001 census. Male Population of India is 623.7 million and Female Population 586.5 Million.
India’s population is now 1.21bn, which is bigger than the combined populations of the US, Indonesia, Brazil, Pakistan and Bangladesh. India conducts census once in every 10 years. The census of 2011 is conducted by 2.5 million officials visiting households in about 7,000 towns and 600,000 villages.
